David Green
Family:
Wife, Katie; Sons, Garrett and Landon
My life verse is:
Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
Saved:
I gave my life to Christ at Vacation Bible School when I was nine. I doubted at times, though. It was a few years later before I really began to understand grace. ( I’m still learning about it every day!)
If I could ask God one question, it would be:
If for the rest of my life, would He grant me the opportunity to see people through his eyes, so that I might respond to others accordingly?
Nobody knows that I:
Hmmmmmm….. I think a small hand full of people pretty much know everything there is to know about me. I’m fairly transparent with the people I trust the most.
I am happiest when:
I am having meaningful conversation with others.
One of the things I find most fascinating is:
How much our culture influences our understanding of what it means to be a Christ follower.
The One Book (besides the Bible) I’d recommend to anyone is:
Only one?? Hats off to my friend Tim Madigan and his book: I’m Proud of You: My Friendship with Fred Rogers. Tim reminds me what a gift it is to have good friends.
My last meal would be:
Sushi. Just kidding. I’m trying to like it, because I like to try and enjoy new things.
I am most excited about:
People. There is nothing more exciting to me than to see people reach their potential for who God is calling them to be. If I get to heaven before they do, I will still be wanting to cheer them on… saying IT IS WORTH IT! YOU CAN DO IT!
On my iPod:
One of my favorites is 100 Years by Five for Fighting. It reminds me of the brevity of life. Did you ever notice the last note of the song? I like how that ends… unfinished.
My trademark expression is:
“Get the work done and then have fun.” This drives my family crazy. My wife prefers “Have fun while you get the work done.” I am trying to become more like her in that regard.
My proudest moment is:
I have a passion for teaching my kids to serve others. When I see them do some unprompted act of kindness it makes me think we’re making some headway.
If I could I would:
Live in a giant cul de sac filled with the houses of people I love and care for deeply. We’d all have large front porches with swings, and there would be lots of spontaneous knocks on each other’s front doors. “Wanna sit out in the swing and have a glass of iced tea?’
I could eat or drink:
I can? Great! When??? High metabolism isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.... especially when you have to get up in the middle of the night to eat.
My pet peeve is:
People boasting on Facebook about a) what they had for lunch b) every trivial detail of their day.
My perfect day would be:
I think I had it not too long ago… camping by myself, (good “alone time”) followed with welcoming my family to join me.
My favorite childhood memory is:

Playing in my parents’ back yard. You see why! (No that’s not in Texas, by the way). My parents have lived in the same home my entire life, and I always enjoy going back to visit them (and to see my teeth prints in the bedroom door, my footprint in the cement on the back porch, et. al )
In my free time, I:
Like to sleep. A nap makes everything better. I love to work on home renovation type things….a chance to see something transformed.
If I could do it over again, I’d:
Be more brief on the responses to these questions. Seriously, I’d have pursued more things that I feared at the time. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life afraid to pursue new challenges. I’m glad it is never too late….
My favorite TV show is:
The Brady Bunch. I’m the youngest of four children, ten years younger than my next closest brother. As a kid, I thought it would be cool to have so many siblings close to my age. As an adult, I think it would be cool to have a live-in maid and Astroturf that didn’t have to be mowed. I’ve met three of the cast. My next goal is to meet Alice. Does anyone have a connection? Heard she lives in San Antonio.
People I would want to have a meal with:
This is one of those other-than-Jesus questions, right? I’d love to have my best friends (who live in different states) over for dinner. That would mean more to me than eating with anybody really famous. Besides, I’d be too nervous to eat with someone famous, and I love food too much to miss a great meal.
One of My Greatest Experiences with God is:
When I feel intimately connected with Him… really in tune with the Spirit’s work in my life. Intimacy is a kicker… so hard to maintain, but so worth the pursuit.
What do I love about our church?
I love that we are a church without a lot of politics and power plays. I love the people of this church. So many times, I am blessed by the ways I see our congregation growing in the Lord, reaching out, serving, and blessing others. As my son would say: You rock! Eight years on staff and I still love coming to work every day!
What do I love about my wife?
She’s incredible! She’s made our home a haven for our family, and a place of ministry and hospitality to literally hundreds of people through the years.
