Dear Church Family,

2011 PROMISES CHRISTMAS DINNER

Promises Community Christmas is just around the corner and I encourage our entire church family to play a part in this wonderful evening of serving our special guests.

Each family who has received community assistance services this year through the Promises Center has received an invitation to join us for dinner on the evening of December 10th. If you have been present for any of the past ten years, you know what a blessing it is to be involved in the events of this evening.

But, let me be honest. THIS IS A HUGE UNDERTAKING! To provide our very best to these families in need, our church must come together with a spirit of unity, service, and sacrifice. We are expecting an attendance of over 600.

With your help, when our guests arrive on the evening of December 10th, they will be treated to the following:

  • An entertaining “kid friendly” presentation of Christmas music in our Worship Center that communicates our true reason for celebration.
  • A wonderful dinner with all the trimmings, in a gym that is transformed into a great banquet hall—decorated tables with linens and china. Dessert and coffee will also be served.
  • Christmas gift distribution, a toy gift and clothing gift for each child present, and a Christmas food gift box with a turkey/ham coupon and an assortment of canned goods.

It is no exaggeration to say that there are 1,000 details to cover in preparation for this event. Here is how you can partner with us for this year’s event:

  • Pray for the spiritual and physical needs of each guest.
  • Take a “wish list” of clothes/toys and shop for a child who is planning to attend the event. Starting on Sunday, November 13th, please visit our table in the Great Hall to adopt a child.
  • Take an ornament from the Promises Tree in the Great Hallway and sponsor one or more families who will be attending the dinner. (This covers the cost of the evening meal and a food box for each family.)
  • Volunteer for one of the many areas of service for the day of the dinner.. Beginning Sunday, visit www.fbcburleson.com to register to serve on one of the committees.

A special note to our Adult Bible Fellowship and Life Group Leaders: Please encourage your class/group to sign up for an entire volunteer project, (i.e., assembling food boxes, dishroom duty, table settings, etc.) and make this a ministry/fellowship opportunity for your entire group.

It is a joy to serve the Lord together with you! Let’s make this Christmas a memorable one for many families in our community.

Yours in Christ,
David Green
