Vision Statements
First Baptist Church has adopted a vision statement which is summed up using the word PROMISE as an acronym. The following seven commitments make up our vision of what a fully maturing follower of Christ is all about.
Prayer
Prayer is the soul's response to a God of grace, Who has shown Himself to us through His Son Jesus Christ. It is the barest essential of a relationship with God that begins as one's faith response to Him. It is talking to God in the same way we talk to a best friend. We serve him as if it all depends on us; praying, all the while knowing, that it all depends on Him.
Relationships
Through Jesus' sacrifice on Calvary, we are redeemed into an eternal relationship with God, and it is His will that we enjoy relationships with other believers. It is through spiritual community that we experience the love of God on earth in human relationships. In the loving warmth of a small group, the believer will grow best to be like Christ.
Offerings
Jesus offered Himself as the once for all sacrifice for our sin, thereby, teaching us that our lives are to be characterized by offering ourselves and our material resources in service to others and the Kingdom of God. Selflessness is a defining characteristic of the Christian life. Giving generously, even sacrificially, through the local church is a primary indicator of spiritual growth. All that we have belongs to God anyway.
Ministry
Every believer is a minister. Each of us is gifted by God in special and unique ways to serve the needs of the Church, and we are responsible to discover those gifts and utilize them in a way that honors the Lord and benefits the Church.
Inspiring Worship
Worship is not a game, nor is it a ritual. It is not intended to be an exercise in futility. Rather, worship should inspire the believer on to further praise and obedience. Inspiring worship provides the believer with an avenue to praise God corporately, and it also contagiously attracts others, drawing them to the Lord.
Study the Word
In order to grow into the image of Jesus Christ, the Word’s stated purpose for our lives, it is necessary in order to grow into the image of Jesus Christ, the Word’s stated purpose for our lives, it is necessary for us to know what He is like. We discover His will in studying His Word. Both personal and group study, contribute heavily to our growth and maturity as Christians.
Evangelism
Lost people matter to God! This is emphasized to the extreme by the fact that Jesus' last recorded words before He ascended into heaven, after accomplishing our salvation, were spoken to commission us all to be His witnesses. Throughout human history, His plan for disseminating the gospel has always been the same: His people will speak to others on His behalf. Every believer is to be a verbal witness of His own faith experience in Christ.
